Heel pain

Arch Pain / Arch Strain / Plantar fasciitis / heel spur

The term arch pain (often referred to as arch strain) refers to an inflammation and/or burning sensation at the arch of the foot. Most frequently the cause is a common condition called plantar fasciitis.

Cause

The plantar fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue located along the bottom surface of the foot that runs from the heel to the forefoot. Excessive stretching of the plantar fascia, usually due to over-pronation (flat feet), an excessively high arch, or increased body weight, causes inflammation and pain in either the heel and/or mid arch.

Symptoms are usually more prevalent in the morning or after prolonged rest. If left untreated and strain on the arch continues, a bony protrusion may develop, known as a heel spur.

It is important to seek treatment promptly before it worsens. This is the most common injury we see at Footpoint, we have developed treatment strategies to help reduce symptoms and get people back to their normal activities as  soon as possible.
